 What is PVC?

PVC, or commonly called "vinyl", is an abbreviation for the words (Poly Vinyl Chloride) and is a type of polymerization product produced using petroleum( or natural gas) and salt in the petro-chemical facilities, with the formula – ( CH2 – ch2). After blending with various filling materials, this polymer is plasticised and shaped under heat and used. PVC is one of the rare thermoplastics, which includes a chlorine atom in the polymer chain. Due to the chlorine content, the flash point of PVC is very high, and when ignited, the fire extinguishes itself naturally. PVC decomposes easily at very high temperatures and produces hydrochloric acid, a corrosive gas and may be mixed with a larger variety of filling materials as compared to the other polymers. Therefore the cost of the PVC materials is relatively low, providing many general purpose application. PVC is the most is the most commonly used plastic material after polyethylene.
